Which Fish Oil Should I take?

by Gussy
(USA)

Hi, My doctor recommended that I take 3000 mg of fish oil per day. But here's an interesting issue. I found 2 bottles of fish oil capsules. In one bottle, 1 capsule contains 1000 mg of fish oil with 500 mg of EPA and 75 mg of DHA.

The other bottle has capsules that each contains 1000 mg of fish oil with 180 mg of EPA and 120 mg of DHA. Which one should I take? Do these EPA and DHA dosages matter at all?

Thanks.

Answer:

Must commercial fish oil has 180/120 EPA/DHA per 1.000 mg of fish oil capsule. The idea is to get at least 900 mg of omega 3 fatty acids( EPA plus DHA) per day. That is all

It is also important the quality of your fish oil. If it is molecularly distilled it means it has less contaminants (all commercial fish has lots of mercury these days, a neurotoxin).

That is why it is not recommended to eat a lot of omega 3 rich fish, due to high mercury contamination. By molecular distillation must mercury contamination is eliminated.

Try to take 3.000 mg of fish oil per day if you are not over weight or have high blood pressure, diabetes or high triglycerides. If you are, take at least 6.000 mg per day.

My best to you,
