Diet and Exercise for High Triglycerides

by Lance

Hi. I’m a 34 year old male with high triglycerides, is diet and exercise the only hope?

Thanks for your opinion

Lance

Answer:

Lance: No, there are a few more things you can do. Nevertheless, diet and exercise are the first tools you should use along with fish oil. These three will lower your triglycerides fast and easy. If that is not enough you will have to take a medication.

Yes, it is very important that your take matters in your hands because high triglycerides, (above 100, not 150 as some doctors recommend) is one of the main markers of heart disease. The other is low HDL cholesterol, good cholesterol below 60…..If you have these 2 numbers under control, you can forget about high cholesterol and all the other figures.

The best way to control these numbers is completely avoid foods that raise insulin. Read, carbohydrates like, pasta, breads, grains, grain oils, sugars, etc Eat some fruit and vegetables and lots of meats, eggs, dairy products and butter.

I know, this is the opposite to what you have been told for the last 30 years but believe me, my own experience, the enemy is not fat but insulin raising foods. Please, read Triglicerides.

Second, exercise will burn whatever sugar is in your blood. Exercise balances hormones and insulin is a hormone. Do it every day to keep sugar under control

There are 2 ways of doing it:
-Aerobic exercise, long slow exercise like running. It does its work but it takes too long - Anaerobic exercise. Short burst of intense exercise, done at close to top speed, like sprinting or lifting weights.

You can do it for 15-20 minutes and it is better to keep your weight under control. Please read Fish Oil and Exercise

Third, take 6.000 mg of fish oil every day (close to 1.800 mg of omega 3 fats EPA and DHA). It is very effective but make sure you buy a good quality omega 3 to do the job.

Do these 3 steps for a month and check your triglycerides. Adjust omega 3 according the test results.

Be Healthy

Triglycerides, Exercise, Diet and Omega3

by Sam
(Florida)

Hi, I am 65 years old male with a little overweight and no special diet. I do some exercise 3 times a week but my triglycerides are over 280. I thought that by increasing exercise would bring my triglycerides to normal range but it has not happened.

What suggestions would you make to lower them under 150.

Sam
Fort Lauderdale

Answer:

Sam: there are 2 main markers for heart disease, triglycerides over 100 (not 150 as some doctors would say) and HDL cholesterol under 50 (ideally, should be over 70). If you have those numbers below 100 and above 70 you are on the safe side of the heart disease equation.

You are concentrating a only one of the three steps to lower triglycerides.

Now, you should worry about your level of triglycerides above 280 but fortunately there are precise steps you can take to bring them down without taking any medication.

Steps to lower triglycerides:

-Exercise everyday for 30 minutes a day at a medium-high level of exertion. With this type of exercise you HDL cholesterol will also go up. Please read Omega 3 and Exercise

-Eat a low carbohydrates diet. No pasta, breads, sugars, sodas, sweets, grains, etc. The enemy is not fats but grains and grain oils they are all omega 6 and the body make triglycerides with them. For better explanation read Eating the Omega 3 Way

-Take 6.000 mg of fish oil everyday (close to 1.800 mg of omega 3 EPA plus DHA) and test your blood after 30 days. For better explanation read Triglycerides You may need more fish oil if they don´t go under 100

Best regards,

Alfredo E.

Will 2.000 mg of Fish Oil Lower My Triglycerides?

by Bob

Fish oil supplement for triglycerides

Fish oil supplement for triglycerides

Hi, I'm taking 2000 mg a day of fish oil to lower my triglycerides is this correct?
I’ve just started to take this omega 3 supplements like 2 or 3 weeks ago to lower my triglycerides and I’m taking 2000 mg per day, is this the right amount for me ?

And for how long can I take this fish oil supplements?

Thank you

Bob S

Answer:

Hi Bob: It depends on several factors: the quality and concentration of your fish oil supplements, your diet, your weight, level of exertion and, last, your genetics. The only way for sure to know is by testing your blood after 30 days of taking your fish oil.

If you have high triglycerides, I would suggest you start taking 6.000 mg of fish oil per day, close to 1.800 mg of omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA) and check in a month.

It won’t hurt you if you do some other things to help lower your triglycerides, like change in diet and exercise habits. These 2 will help you keep them low for the rest of your life.

Please read Fish Oil and Triglycerides

My best wishes.

Possible Future Heart Problems?

by George
(Las Vegas)

Can you help me interpret numbers? I am a 36yo male, 6'2, 260lbs, I do not exercise. What do you think of my situation with these numbers? Some suggestions as what to do to improve my profile?

triglycerides 241
total cholesterol 171
hdl cholesterol 41
ldl cholstrol 82
ratio 4.2

Thank you,

George
Las Vegas

Answer:

George: from the small amount of information you give, I see that you are with some extra weight on your shoulders and that is reflecting in your test. We could sit here for hours discussing if your numbers are really bad…. if you go to most doctors they would agree with that. I don´t believe.

You only need to have your triglycerides under 100, not 150, and your HDL cholesterol over 60 in order to have a good heart health.

There are basically a few important things you should do to bring those numbers under control, without taking any drugs:

• Take exercise. It is great for both triglycerides and HDL cholesterol. Exercise 30 minutes a day at a medium- high intensity. It will do wonders for you health but specially for your mental health. Please, read Exercise

• Do not eat processed carbohydrates like breads, pasta, sugars, grans grain oils, etc These are the worstd offenders for triglycerides and low immune system. Please read Eating the Omega 3 Way

• Take 6.000 mg of fuish oil ( close to 1.800 mg of fatty acids, EPA plus DHA) every day. It will be great to lower your triglycerides and to increase you HDL cholesterol. Pleae read Fish Oil and Triglycerides

The best for you,

Alfredo E.
