How long before for fish oil capsules take effect? I take a dosage of 3 pills a day. I just started taking fish oil less than a week ago. Since fish oil is good for many conditions, I would like to know how long it'll take before I start seeing any noticeable effects (improvements of skin and hair)

Answer:
Maria: the time it takes fish oil to show any results depends on several factors. Most of us consume large amounts of omega 6 fats or oils in our food (carbohydrates, breads, pasta, grains, grain oils, etc). Omega 3 competes with omega 6 fats for the same enzyme to get digested. If we get a lot of omega 6 less omega 3 will be available..
That is why we should take omega 3 supplements and at the same time reduce the amounts of omega 6 ingested. This way will feel a fast response to omega 3 supplementation. Otherwise, you may never see any results. For a better explanation see Eating The Omega 3 Way and Omega 3 Deficiency
The amount of 3.000 mg fish oil capsules per day, if they have 180 mg of EPA and 120 mg of DHA, is a good quantity for maintenance of good health but if you are overweight, have high blood pressure or diabetes, you have to take at least 6.000 mg of fish oil per day. If you want to improve your mood you may have to take more. Please, see Fish Oil dosage
The best for you,
