Thyroid Function - Do Fish Oil Pills Support Thyroid Function?
Question:
Thyroid Function. When I became pregnant with #2, I started seeing a different provider in a different hospital and they said it’s good to take fish oil pills while pregnant along with the prenatals...
Ok, that’s all well and good but I forgot to ask them as well if it supports a LOW THYROID? I am on thyroid replacement hormones and have been since I gave birth to #1, 4 years ago as I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (under functioning thyroid...)

Thyroid Function.Fish oil supports ALL your body cells optimal operation, whatever problem you may have. It is an ESSENTIAL fatty acid, not a drug, meaning if you don’t get enough in your diet you have an unbalance in your omega 6/omega 3 ratio.
That favors a long list of degenerative diseases from accelerated aging to diabetes, obesity, high triglycerides, etc. Please read, Omega 3 Deficiency
Fish Oil basically compensates our modern time diets that are very low in omega 3s and high in omega 6s (high in cakes, sugars, sodas, grains, carbohydrates, etc).
Probably, we could easily understand the mechanism by means of which cells work with Omega 6 and Omega 3 fats, with the following example:
All body cells have a membrane. Each membrane is mainly made of essential fats, or essential fatty acids, Omega 6 and Omega 3. If the membrane has too much Omega 6 it becomes hard, viscous and there are problems for the food, energy and hormone transfer. When Omega 3 is sufficient the membrane is thinner, less viscous, more elastic, less inflamed. Too much 3 Omega and the membrane “drips”.
Too much Omega 6 and is clogged. It has been established that the appropriate Omega 6/Omega 3 ratio is near 1:1. In our modern life this ratio has changed to around 20:1, and some times up to 50:1. We eat too much Omega 6. For a better explanation you can visit my page on
Too much Omega 6 and our cellular membranes are heavy, inelastic and the cellular function is slow. The body must do more work to feed itself and to remove toxins. Tissues are plugged up and they become inflamed. Inflammation is the main symptom of many diseases, from heart disease, arthritis, allergies and the list goes on and on.
Omega 3 deficiency is also related to diseases like diabetes and thyroid dysfunction. If your membranes are slow, your body must produce more insulin to be able to put sugars into cells to produce energy.
Then, you become more insulin resistant. If your pancreas is inflamed it will be more difficult to produce the insulin your body is demanding.
Modern diets have 20 to 50 times less omega 3 that what we need to keep healthy, that is why we have to supplement with at least 3.000 mg of fish oil dily( close to 900 mgs of omega 3 fats).
Here, you have some of the many and varied benefits:

Don’t forget to take vitamin E with fish oil to avoid oxidation of the omega 3 in your system.
You should take at least 3.000mg of fish oil per day (close to 900 mg of omega 3 fatty acids). It is specially important during pregnancy and lactation since your child's brain development depends on the amounts of omega 3 you get.
My best to you.
P.S. Don’t forget your daily fish oil for your entire family. You can find omega 3 fish oil, molecularly distilled, free of impurities and sent anywhere in the World at low reasonable price,
