Question:
Diet and Exercise - Hi, I am a high school runner with ADD and I recently started taking fish oil because I heard it would help with that. I take 2 fish oil capsules 3 times a day. I've been doing that for about two or three weeks now.

Because I run and workout a lot at a pretty good clip, I have to eat a lot to keep myself going. Your site says that eating grains is bad. Does that include whole grains? Because I thought I was doing myself a favor by switching just about everything I eat to the whole grain alternative. So are whole grains high in Omega 6?

Let me congratulate you for keeping fit and running, this is the best drug for your brain and overall health. Now, regarding fish oil, you can take it at different hours or at once, it does not make a difference. You see, what fish oil really does is to optimize your nervous or neurological system( besides many other benefits for the rest of your body), nothing else. But in order to keep your nervous system at its best you need more than omega 3, you need to help your body to maintain as close at possible to the ideal omega 6 / omega 3 ratio, which is to 1/1.
That been said, it is important to remember that our high carbohydrates diets give a 20/1, or higher, omega 6/ omega 3 ratio. So, we should try to compensate by reducing the amounts of omega 6 and increasing the omega 3 ingested. It is done by cutting down all carbohydrates, no matter if they are whole grains or processed grains(if you are going to eat some grains, it is a better alternative to eat whole grains).
This type of diet is called paleo-diet because it is the diet Palaeolithic men ate and the diet all previous creatures in the evolution process had; which also means it is the diet we are made for after millions of years. Take in consideration that agriculture is a recent event in terms of evolution, and that before it the only carbohydrates available where fruits and vegetables. So, we all should replace processed carbohydrates and grains with lots of fruits and vegetables. Our real enemy is insulin, it accelerates aging and a host of degenerative diseases.
