Fish oil fand exercise or heart problems
I believe I am ready to plunge into the omega 3 world but I need some more information. Is fish oil good for heart problems or is it just for prevention of those problems?
Why do we need that oil? For how long do I have to take it?
Thanks,
Cecilia
Answer:
Hi Cecilia. In a few words, in order to keep your heart healthy you should keep your total body healthy. This is simple ( not easy), you just have to eat a low processed food diet based in fruits, vegetables, all proteins, eggs, and “healthy fats”, all that accompanied by 30 minutes of medium- high intensity exercise.
Most of the early research on Fish oil for heart disease was done when it was noticed more than 30 years ago that Eskimos, the Inuits, had a high fat, high cholesterol diet with virtually no heart disease. This was the first link regarding Fish oil and heart disease. Further investigations concluded that this was due to the high level of Omega 3 fatty acids in their diet. They basically only ate meat and fish high in omega 3 fatty acids.
Why Fish Oil is Essential for our Hearts?
• Triglycerides go down, as much as 30-50%, subject to the amount of fish oil taken. Blood clots are less prone to form, anti platelet aggregation, blood is less sticky.
• Blood pressure drops slightly.
• Improves circulation to all parts of the body. Specially important as we age.
• Heart beat is more stable, less prone to arrhythmias, sudden cardiac arrhythmia(death) is reduced a much as 50%.
• Inflammation, a marker of aging, is reduced in all the circulatory system, making the endothelium( the inner layer of the arteries) less inflammated, less prone to injuries and obstructions, that is, less heart attacks, less strokes.
• Rises HDL Cholesterol (Good cholesterol).
All of the above is accomplished by a mechanism where if there is a balance in the amounts of Omega 3(from fish oils) and Omega 6( from grains and grain oils), our body regulates itself to make all of cells to function in balance. That is, cell membranes in your body become more elastic and they can transfer and receive hormones, food and energy faster and more efficiently.

Fish oil benefitsFish oil, or omega 3 fats, is called a “healthy fat” because our body needs it to stay free of degenerative conditions. It is believed that 90% of the US population live under something called “omega 3 deficiency”, we receive close to 20 times less omega 3 that what we should get in the diet. That is why we need to supplement with fish oil capsules.
