Rash and Pure EPA Fish Oil

by Sally
(UK)

Hi. Rash caused by fish oil? About a month ago I started taking Mind 1st PuraEPA as recommended by a friend for low mood. It has certainly helped my general mood, but I have come up with this awful itchy rash which has got worse and worse.

Antihistamines do not help, neither does steroid cream (although as someone who likes herbal remedies I did not stick with this for long). I have tried E45, Bio Oil, Sudacrem, Tea Tree and witch hazel cream and nothing cures it. It is driving me crazy, on my lower legs, tummy, arms, lower back, neck and getting worse.

Could this be the EPA or Borage Oil in the product which I thought was good for the skin!! If it is the fish oil at least I can stop taking it and see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks.

Hello Sally:

I would say, you should stop taking all of these supplements until the rash clears completely. Once it is gone for one or two weeks, start adding one at the time. For example, start with the fish oil. If you get the rash again, switch to a different kind of fish oil (I would suggest you try our Fish oil with DHA, specially important in mood disorders).

I also would encourage you to start making 2 other changes that affect mood and feelings in many people: daily exercise and a diet free of grains and grain oils. These 2 changes have a rapid and profound impact in the mood of a person. Take them as habits and you will feel like new.
