On Statins and Fish oil For High Cholesterol

by Billy Lee
(USA)

Hi,I have high cholesterol and am on Vitorin 10/40. I see so many fish oils products(6/3 ratio) omega 3-6-9 etc...

How do I know which is the best for me?
Thanks.

Answer:

Hi Billy: The reason to take fish oil supplements is that our omega 3 ingestion on western modern diets is 20 to 50 times less that what our body needs to stay healthy. You see, omega 3 is an ESSENTIAL fatty acid that can not be produced by the body and has to come from an outside source.

Besides, the same western diets are saturated in omega 6 fatty acids, always present in all grains and grain oils. That is the real problem, saturation of omega 6 and too low omega 3. So, if you are supplementing with more omega 6 and omega 9, you are doing more harm and unbalancing of the natural fatty equilibrium.

You can find more information at What is Omega 3 Section

Now, regarding Vitorin and all other statins to lower cholesterol, I would say that you could do some reading regarding the dangers of these drugs at Dr Mercola.com.

You could also start taking fish oil to protect your cardiovascular system. It would not lower cholesterol (actually, cholesterol is a substance the body needs to protect itself from chronic inflammation) it will improve your cholesterol profile by lowering your triglycerides ( should be below 100) and increasing your HDL cholesterol ( good cholesterol, should be above 60). You can read more at Triglycerides

Last, you have tremendous tool to fight chronic inflammation, it is called exercise. It is probably the best thing you can do for your body. Read more why we need exercise

My Best to you,

Alfredo E.

P.S. Don’t forget your daily fish oil for your entire family and always take along an antioxidant, like vitamin E, to prevent oxidation inside your body. You can find omega 3 fish oil, molecularly distilled, free of impurities sent anywhere in the World at low reasonable price, Click here
