Omega3, Coumadin And Mitral Stenosis

by Maria Fe O. Santos
(Pasig City, Metro Manila, Philippines)

Hi. I have severe mitral stenosis and is due to a heart surgery in two months time... I would like to ask if taking the omega3 would help me avoid the surgery... I would like to start taking it but I have some questions in my mind..

Presently I am also taking Coumadin, 2.5mg at bedtime. What would happen if i take the two together?.. I am just worried to bleed if i take them together.

Please advise me soon... so I can start taking Omega 3 if it is safe for me to take together with coumadin...

Thank you so much

Answer:

Hello Maria. If your mitral valve Is damaged and needs surgery, I don´t think omega 3 is going to avoid it in any way. Nevertheless, I would advise you to consult a second opinion regarding the real need of the surgery, maybe there is some other way around it.

Regarding the idea of taking omega 3 with Coumadin, since you are already taking the drug, it is a better idea to consult it with your main physician.

There are many benefits you will receive from omega 3 fish oil that could add to your health status. We all need to take omega 3 since it is an essential fat, regardless of the age, gender or health disorders, don´t forget that.
