When we speak of Essential Fatty acids we refer to the fats that our diet must supply to keep us healthy. If we do not obtain these fatty acids our health suffers and we become ill. This is why they are called ESSENTIAL.
Omega 3 Deficiency - Omega 6 to Omega 3 Ratio.
We could probably understand more easily the mechanism by which cells work with Omega 6 and Omega 3 fats with the following example:All the cells in our body have a membrane. Each membrane is mainly made of essential fats, or essential fatty acids, Omega 6 and Omega 3. If the membrane has too much Omega 6 it becomes hard, viscous and there are problems for food, energy and hormones transfer. When Omega 3 is sufficient the membrane is thinner, less viscous, more elastic, and less inflamed. Too much 3 Omega and the membrane “drips.” Too much Omega 6 and it becomes clogged. It has been established that the appropriate Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio is near 1 to 1. In our modern life this ratio has changed to around 20 to 1, and sometimes up to 50 to 1. - Do not buy or take supplements containing omega 6 or 9. You already have too much of these and don’t want to put more fuel on the fire.
- Avoid all sodas and sugary drinks. These increase your insulin, make you fatter, more inflamed and cause all the disorders we want to avoid. Regain taste for that flavourless liquid called water.
- No more cooking with grain oils (yes, those that indicate cholesterol free oils. Those are full of Trans fats); they are saturated with omega 6. Learn to cook with coconut oil, butter and olive oil.
