Pregnancy Fish Oil: Omega 3 Dosage For Pregnant Lady

Pregnancy Fish Oil

Question:

Pregnancy Fish Oil:I am pregnant and would like to take fish oil supplements. I live in a developing country so it is very hard to find special supplements for pregnant women.

"our brain functions at its best with a
high DHA(an Omega 3 fat)diet."

I bought 'regular' fish oil capsules made in the USA, but I would like to know if the dosage is still ok to take. These capsules contain 120 mg of DHA and 180 of EPA. I've read that DHA is very good, but I can't find much information whether such a high dosage of EPA is ok for the baby.

Answer:

Hello Karin: Thanks for visiting our Portal.

Let me congratulate you for taking the time to inform you about the importance of your nourishment during pregnancy. It has a big impact in your health and for you future child.

Some years ago It was discovered that Omega 3 fats are ESSENTIAL for the complete development of the brain in pregnancy and infancy. The brain is formed mainly of fats, different fats. About 60% of the brain is fat. DHA, one of the components of Omega 3, is the main fat in the brain.

If the pregnant mother is deficient in Omega 3 the developing child nervous and immune systems will never fully mature, with all the terrible consequences for his/her future life.

The relevance of omega 3 becomes more significant during the last 3 months of pregnancy where the nervous systems develops more rapidly. If the body finds Trans Fats or too much omega 6, instead of the much needed omega 3, the brain cell connections formed are different, faulty.

Now, the fish oil you mention, 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA per capsule, is the most common omega 3 you find in the market. It is the appropriate fish oil to take if it is molecularly distilled. If it does not mention it, it is not molecularly distilled.

This type of fish oil is special for you because it does not have any Mercury, a metal that is a neurotoxin (affects the brain of your child). Big danger for the child.

Benefits of fish oil in pregnancy:

  • Avoidance of premature babies(fully developed child).
  • Allergy Prevention. Researchers have found that taking omega-3 fatty acids in the form of fish oil supplements during pregnancy might help prevent allergies in babies borne to women with a history of hay fever or asthma.
  • Maximize the intelligence of the baby. Studies suggest the use of omega 3 oils is an absolute must. It is also clear that omega 3 fat supplementation, and restriction of omega 6 fats, will profoundly improve the brain function of the child.
  • Prevent diabetes later in life.
  • Prevent depression before and after childbirth.
