Question:Flaxseed Oil Capsules. I’ve heard that fish oil and flaxseed oil supplements are the same things, so taking both would be pointless. Which do you think is the better supplement? Why? By George. Answer: Flaxseed Oil Capsules. This is a recurrent question about omega 3 and if you do a search it probably will come with many answers. Flaxseeds has Alpha Linolenic Acid, ALA, which is a precursor of EPA and DHA, the ultimate acids our body use. In order to do that, the body employs enzymes that convert ALA to EPA and DHA. Some people lack these enzymes and do not make the conversion. Besides, even normal people only get about 10% rate of conversion from ALA to EPA and DHA. In other words, even if you make the conversion from ALA it may be difficult to get proper dosage of EPA and DHA to get most of the benefits of omega 3. On top of all that, studies link flaxseeds to increase rates of prostate cancer. In short: 1-Flaxseeds don’t have omega 3, it has AA that has to be converted by your body to EPA and DHA. Many people don’t do this efficiently and some people don’t convert it at all. Nevertheless, its good for your stomach and digestion. I personally take 2 spoonfuls per day for digestion. More at:

2-The body needs an Omega 6/Omega 3 ratio of 1/1. When you buy a supplement that has omega 6 and omega 3, you are adding gas to your internal fire; that is, your omega 6 will be even higher that what it was before you added the supplements. The problem is our diets have too much omega 6 which produce all kinds of degenerative diseases; you don’t want to add more omega 6 or omega 9, just omega 3. Remember that. Too much Omega 6, our cellular membranes are heavy, inelastic and the cellular function is slow. The body must do more work to feed itself and to remove toxins. If your membranes are slow, your body must produce more insulin to be able to put sugars into cells to produce energy. Then, you become more insulin resistant. If your pancreas is inflamed it will be more difficult to produce the insulin your body is demanding. Omega 3 fish oil deficiency also is related to high cholesterol. Cholesterol is a substance that heals and alleviates inflammation. High cholesterol is not the real problem. The body produces more cholesterol to try to fix something, generally inflammation. Fix the inflammation and the body will lower its cholesterol production. In addition, insulin stimulates more cholesterol production.
