Supplementing with Omega 3 6 9

Question:

Omega 3 6 9. When I go to the store, I see that they have supplements with omega 3, 6 and 9. Should I buy those? I know we need the 3 omegas, but I have the doubt if we should supplement all of them.

Answer:

All body cells have a membrane. Each membrane is mainly made of essential fats, or essential fatty acids, Omega 6 and Omega 3.

If the membrane has too much Omega 6 it becomes hard, viscous and there are problems with food, energy and hormone transfer.

When Omega 3 is sufficient the membrane is thinner, less viscous, more elastic, less inflamed. Too much 3 Omega and the membrane “drips”. Too much Omega 6 and is clogged. It has been established that the appropriate Omega 6/Omega 3 ratio is near 1:1. In our modern life this ratio has changed to around 20:1, and some times up to 50:1. We eat too much Omega 6.

Too much Omega 6 and our cellular membranes are heavy, inelastic and the cellular function is slow. The body must do more work to feed itself and to remove toxins.

Tissues are plugged up and they become inflamed. Inflammation is the main symptom of many diseases, from heart disease , arthritis, allergies and the list goes on and on.

Omega 3 deficiency is also related to diseases like diabetes and thyroid dysfunction. If your membranes are slow, your body must produce more insulin to be able to put sugars into cells to produce energy.

The, you become more insulin resistant. If your pancreas is inflamed it will be more difficult to produce the insulin your body is demanding.

There is a common misunderstanding about fatty acids and omega 3,6,9. One thing is to say that all our body cells need omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9, in order to operate correctly, and something very different is to say that we all should be supplementing with omega 3 6 9.

Let me say that the ideal omega 6/ omega 3 ratio should be close to 1/1. Human being evolved for millions of years with a diet with that ratio. But that was before agriculture was discovered, a few thousand years ago.

With modern agriculture and mass production of cereals and grains, cheap grain products are always present in our diets, making the actual omega 6/ omega 3 ratio close to 20/1, or higher.

This means that we already have too much omega 6, the same with omega 9, so why should we buy a supplement of something we already have too much of?. We would be doing more harm to our body.

Buy only omega 3 supplements, try to take at least 3 grams per day ( what the American Heart Association recommends) if you are in perfect health and ideal weight, more if you are overweight or with any disorder.
