Mouth Ulcers In Dog And Omega 3
Finally ulcers were cultured , and then tx with tetracycline. The tetracycline helped, except she started getting one back in the upper far back area. I started her back on tetracycline which has not done anything. Now almost all the ulcers have come back. The vet cannot explain what maybe causing.
My daughter has had mouth ulcers for the last 15 yrs and numerous drs. and several dentist could not tell her why either and nothing helped. The last 8 mos. , a new dr, took her off her BCP thinking maybe it was something hormonal, but it was not.
Then he started her on omega 3 and she has not had any more ulcers. So I was thinking maybe this would help my dog. I am not sure how much to give. I have Natures Bounty Omega-3 fish oil 1200mg caps. Can I give this?
Thank you so much, I just do not know what else I can do.
Answer:
HI, omega 3 supplementation in dogs makes sense for the same reasons than in humans. Our modern diets do not contain the amount of omega 3 for proper functioning of our metabolism, brains, immune and cardiovascular systems. In a few words, omega 3 is an essential oil for good health.
In the case of your dog, the immune system may improve if you feed him with a high omega 3 diet. That is, no dry food, just meat and bones. You may start supplementing with one fish oil capsule a day for a few weeks and depending on the diet and his reaction, increase the amount until you notice some improvement. This is a trial and error…..
