ShihTzu Itching and omega 3
Hi. My name is Charlie Brown, I'm a 10 month old female shih tzu. I weigh about 10 lbs. I itch a lot, my mama gets me groomed every friday. How much fish oil do I need to maybe help with my itching?
Thanks.
Answer:
Hi Charlie, the amounts of omega 3 you need to improve chronic inflammation, your itching is a sign of inflammation, depends of your diet, your age and your physical health. For example, if you have a diet based in dry dead food (lots of pro-inflammatory omega 6s that counteract the omega 3 anti-inflammatory properties) you will need more omega 3 than if you had a diet with no omega 6 (carnivorous diet).
So, you will have to start with 1 fish oil capsule (1.000 mg of fish oil, equivalent to 300 mg of total omega 3 fats, EPA plus DHA) per day, and see if you have any improvements in your skin condition. Reevaluate after a couple of weeks, add another capsule until you find your ideal fish oil dosage.
Remember, your digestion is made for meat not for dry food made of grains. It will make you get many degenerative disorders early in life, and you don´t want that to happen.
Please, read Fish Oil For Dogs.
