"a high carbohydrate diets increases triglicerides level"
Answer:
This is one of the most recurrent questions about fish oil. How to use it for high triglycerides.
For years high Total Cholesterol(greater than 200 mg/dl), with HDL Cholesterol greater than 130 mg/dl and with low HDL Cholesterol (smaller of 40 mg/dl), were seen as the beginning of the development of coronary and cardiovascular disease. A direct link between the last and triglycerides levels had not clearly been established.
Recently, it was clarified that high triglycerides levels are themselves an important and independent factor for coronary arteries occlusion. Much more if they are combined with high LDL and low HDL cholesterols. Specially important is the Triglycerides/HDL(TG/HDL) ratio, near or smaller than 1.
Normal Ranges. Let us begin with the American Heart Association (AHA). It recommends the following ranges:
Normal, lower than 150 mg/dl.
High normal, between 150-200 mg/dl.
High, between 200-500 mg/dl.
Very high, greater than 500 mg/dl.
Although these are normal ranges, many doctors give special emphasis to have triglycerides below 100 mg/dl (optimal), since higher levels are related not only to coronary disease but to many other evils of human being: obesity, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, high blood pressure, general inflammation, etc.
There are several factors that work together to produce your high triglycerides level: carbohydrates, exercise(or lack of it) and fish oil ingestion. You control your triglycerides by acting on the 3:
1- Carbohydrates. All grains, alcohol, breads, pasta, cookies, sodas, etc, are immediately converted by your liver into triglycerides. They go into your blood that then become fat in you stomach.
2- Exercise is your best friend to lower triglycerides, high intensity exercise for 45-60 minutes per day, will nock down any triglycerides level. Try to do intervals, low intensity mixed with high intensity.
3- Your last weapon if fish oil. The minimum maintenance dosage is 3 grams per day. If you have high triglycerides (above 100, not 150 like many doctors say) you should take at least 6 grams per day and check your blood in 4 weeks. Adjust accordingly.
Don’t forget your daily fish oil for your entire family. You can find omega 3 fish oil, molecularly distilled, free of impurities and sent anywhere in the World at low reasonable price,
