You Bettter Be Aware of the Bad and Good Fat

good and bad fat omega 3

Question:

I realize the health benefits of getting healthy fats in my diet, as well as a moderate amount of saturated fat (1/3), but I was noticing something the other day. I believe that my fat ratios are out of whack, in the sense that I usually get more Mono and sat. fat than I do Poly. Big deal?

The majority of my fat intake comes from nuts and nut butters and whole eggs. Also, I recently started to take fish oil caps. Is this sufficient? should I vary it a little more?

"omega 6 food increase your pro inflammatory
diet, omega 3 balances that."

Answer:

When there is a balance in the amounts of Omega 3(from fish oils) and Omega 6( from grains and grain oils), our body regulates itself to make all of cells to function in balance; that is , the cell membranes in your body become more elastic and they can transfer and receive hormones, food and energy faster and more efficiently.

In our modern diets, the amounts of omega 6 we normally eat have escalated 20 to 50 times the human body evolved with, due to the enormous quantities of grains modern man has been consuming since the invention of agriculture, and specially in the last 100 years.

In short, Omega 6 fatty acids promotes, inflammation, thrombosis, arrhytmia, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, etc. Omega 3 balances its effects. This is very important to remember.

There are several basic principles about healthy fats that, I believe, are easy to follow:

  • Try not to eat any trans fats(Margarines and any other hydrogenated fat that may be in cookies, crackers, breads, etc.). Do not buy any at the supermarket.

  • Avoid all vegetable oils, except olive and avocado oils. They all are omega 6 fats that unbalance the omega 6/omega 3 ratio, making us fat and ill(Almost all degenerative disease and accelerated aging come from these).

  • Try to eat low amounts of grains.(They are carbs and have omega 6). Eat fruits and vegetables that have healthy and plenty of omega 6(some is necessary).

  • Take at least 3 capsules of 1.000 mgrs. Per day of fish oil. More if you are trying to get some specific benefit like low triglycerides.

When you eat carbohydrates, which basically come from the grains in your diet, your body produces insulin to assimilate those carbohydrates. Your liver responds to insulin rising your cholesterol and triglycerides. If you eat high amounts of grains, like in our modern world diets, your body will produce more insulin and your cholesterol will rise to the stratosphere.

This theory is against orthodoxy in medicine that regards foods from animals, the only source of cholesterol in our diet, as the primary cause of high blood cholesterol. Nevertheless, blood cholesterol will respond very poorly to a change in the amounts of cholesterol we take from animals. Cholesterol is mainly produced in our body as direct answer to insulin, our real enemy.
