Answer:
Contrary to what many people have believed for the last 30 years, fats, saturated fats and meats are not the enemy for heart disease and hypertension. The real enemy is INSULIN. When insulin rises blood pressure and weight go up.
Insulin is secreted whenever you eat ANY carbohydrate. Many people believe that when you eat fruits, vegetables and whole grains you will have no problem with insulin….WRONG. Insulin is always present when there are carbohydrates.
Of course, the worst offenders are grains, pasta, breads, flours, sugars and grain oils, processed carbohydrates. They all have what is called Omega 6 fats; they oppose the omega 3 you ingest. …..Ideally you omega 6 / omega 3 ratio should be close to 1/1. In reality, it is 20/1 or worse…So, you see how insulin is the real enemy.
Humans evolved for millions of years eating VERY FEW carbohydrates. There was no agriculture and humans only ate meats, fats and a few fruits and vegetables. Almost zero grains. So, human digestion is not made or better can not handle the amounts of omega 6 we are putting in our systems.
This way of eating is called Paleolithic diet because it was what Paleolithic man ate. You can read more at Eating the Omega 3 Way
