Fish Oil Lasting Period

Hi, how long will fish oil last after opening? Should it be refrigerated? If so how long will it last in fridge?
Sam
Answer:
Sam: omega 3 fatty acids, contrary to omega 6 oils, oxidize very easily. That is one of the reasons it is more expensive to buy omega 3 that any of the commercial grains oils. They get rancid (oxidation) fast, especially with temperature, omega 3 fats I mean…. A reason why they can not be used for cooking
Now, to your question. When you buy liquid fish oil, once you open the bottle, it should be kept in the refrigerator to avoid rapid oxidation. When you buy fish oil capsules there is no problem since each capsule is sealed and there is no contact between oil and air.
