fish oil for humans for your dog
I want to start giving my dog fish oil pills and I need to know if the ones sold in the pet stores are the same ones humans take. I buy the fish oil pills (buy one get one free) and it cost les than what I have to pay for fish oil at the pet stores. Why is that? Are they the same.
Thanks

Answer:
You can use the human ones for your dog, they are all fish oil. In fact the human grade ones could be of better quality than the animal ones.
If you have a rather healthy or young dog you can prevent degenerative diseases by adding a fish oil capsule( 1.000 mgrs of fish oil, which usually have 180 mgrs of Epa and 120 mgrs of DHA, in each), every day, if it´s a medium size dog. Maybe half of that if it is a small dog.
I don´t recommend flax seeds. Many dogs can not convert it to EPA and DHA and it would have to be milled on the spot to avoid oxidation, which makes it useless.
Many supplements contain Omega 3 and Omega 6. By now you know that most pet food contains more that needed omega 6, so if you add more with the supplement, you are not helping your dog.
If you are treating any health condition like renal damage, heart trouble, etc., you would have to increase the dosage according to size and type of problem. If the health condition does not improve with high omega 3 dosages it means there is still too much omega 6 in the system. It needs less omega 6, more natural diet, more omega 3.
