Fish oil for dog with seizures

Hello, I have two small dogs one is 6 lbs and the other is 7 lbs. One of them has real bad seizures I was wanting to try fish oil I was wanting the human grade, most of them have lemon or orange in them, is that ok?

Also, how much do I give them? Also, I read somewhere you are supposed to use fish or salmon oil, does that mean you can not use cod liver oil?

Thanks

Answer.

I recommend in small dogs to use one fish oil capsule every other day. One Capsule contains 1.000 mg of fish oil, equivalent to 300 mg of omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA, from the label. Some cod liver oils are so bad in quality they don´t even say how much EPA and DHA they contain. Do not use those). No problem to use human quality fish oil, it is the same product.

Some liquid cod liver oils and fish oils come in different flavors, you can use those too, but I like to use fish oil instead of cod liver oil because Cod liver oil contains vitamins A and D that could accumulate in the body after long periods.

Fish oil is specially recommended for optimization of the nervous system in humans and dogs. In the case of seizures, you could improve this condition if you avoid feeding your dog with dry food, that is with a high protein diet. Dry dog food is made with grains and all other carbohydrates that not only work against the digestive system dogs have developed to digest meats but it is related with seizures. You can follow my recommendations on how to feed your dog here: Fish Oil For dogs

Please, write back with information on your experience.

Best wishes,

Alfredo E.

seizures

Hello, I have been trying to help my small dog who has very bad seizures. I try everything I hear about. My pets eat raw diet, I do not give them shots, I don`t feed them anything with grains. we give them a supplement called NuVet.

Everything I try to give them is organic meat free range. The seizures stop for months, now they are back. I always try to think what I fed them.

I was reading to find what the best fish oil was and I come across someone who had a dog who started to have seizures. He discovered that animals have seizures when they eat soy. Now, that?s a big problem, just about everything has soy, including most fish oil, dog foods, tuna frozen vegetables, they spray them for preservatives.

I think I found a fish oil that doesn`t have, it is called vital choice it is sockeye salmon oil, is this oil ok?

Thanks.

Answer.

It is not clear to me if the same person who wrote the initial question about seizures is this same Anonymous, it does not look like. Anyway, Anonymous in this comment, says he tries to give his dogs NO grain food, only free range meat but then he says he gives him things with soy.

Soy is erroneously believed to be health food but reality is very different, it is bad food for humans or animals. First almost 100% soy is genetically modified, it creates all kinds of allergies, alters the hormonal system of the animal and it prevents assimilation of minerals and vitamins. In a few words, it alters all the metabolism in the animal. Please, avoid anything with soy for your family or your dog.

I don´t want to think of what actually happens to all the children in the world that are fed with formulas containing soy in every form.

I don´t know of any fish oil that is sprayed with soy. Probably, you are talking about omega 3 from vegetable origin, flaxseeds or chia oils, could have some soy in it but I am not sure. I also recommend to avoid all omega 3 from vegetable origin, use only animal origin omega 3, fish oil, cod liver oil and krill oil. Anyway, please read the label before buying.

Best wishes,

Alfredo E.
