Answer: Omega 3 Dosage. It is just the dose recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) which is very conservative. If you are overweight, have high blood pressure or elevated triglycerides you should start at 6.000 mg per day and check your blood in a month. Fish oil is deficient in most people's diets, and it is absolutely critical to your heart, brain, and overall health. The optimum fish oil dosage has yet to be determined. If you are taking fish oil for general well being or to prevent a health condition, I would suggest 3 grams a day. For children about the same. If you are heavy, lean to the higher end of the range, that is 10 grams/day.
If you are treating a health condition you can begin with 5 grams /day and see what happens. That is the case with high triglycerides, they react to doses, so you would need a blood test.
If you want to be more technical there is a blood test, Araquidonic Acid/Eicosapentaenoic acid, AA/EPA, that can give you a more exact measurement. It should be between 1.5 to 3 to have your omega 6 and omega 3 balanced.
There is also the triglycerides/ HDL cholesterol test, that can give you an indirect measurement of your Omega 6/3 ratio. It should be close to 1.
It doesn’t really matter if you take your capsules at one sitting or divided, what counts is the total amount.

One Essential nutrient may be completely missing from our diets today, omega 3 fats. Omega 3 fats are essential for our hearts, minds and entire body. In fact, every cell of our organism needs omega 3 to work at its prime. For the last 30 years, hundreds of clinical studies have documented the benefits of omega 3 fish oil. Even the conservative American Heart Association (AHA) recommends it for people with risks of cardiovascular disease. The situation is that it is difficult to get the proper amounts of fish oil without risking dangerous contamination, if you want to take it from your diet. As an answer to that need, we offer molecularly distilled fish oil that comes from deep water fish, Hoki, a deep sea fish naturally high in DHA and unique to New Zealand. The oil is refined through extensive molecular distillation processes to remove any form of contamination. Click here to learn more.
