Is Omega 3 Found In Food Enough?

by Sarah
(South Carolina)

Omega 3 in sevarl foods

Omega 3 in sevarl foods

There is omega 3 in a lot of things like my margarine, some dairy, etc. and I hate fish in all its ways but I am a little worried because I am 11 weeks pregnant. Does it mean my baby is going to have a problem?

Do you feel I should start taking fish oil supplements or with the omega 3 there is in foods theses days is enough? How much should I take?.

Thanks for your help

Sarah
South Carolina

Answer:

Sarah: omega 3 is normally found in cold water fatty fish, grass fed cattle and in some vegetables like flaxseeds. The problem is that most fish come from farms, cattle are fed grains instead of grass and flaxseeds have a form of omega 3 that is not entirely bio-available.

The omega 3 most commercial products announce is not bio available and is used as gimmick for unaware buyers. That is the case of margarines, oils, dairy products.

Our diets have 20 to 50 times less omega 3 than what we need to stay healthy and that it is why we should supplement with a good quality fish oil, cod liver oil or krill oil.

If you are pregnant you have a double reason to supplement, it is very important for your future baby brain development. You don’t want to miss it. Please, take 3.000 mg of fish oil a day, close to 900 mg of omega 3 fats (EPA and DHA)

Please read, Pregnancy and Fish Oil

Alfredo E.

Dosage For Child With ADD

Fish oil doses for Attention Deficit Disorder

Fish oil doses for Attention Deficit Disorder

Question: Hi, I just bought a bottle of Carlson Fish oil for kids, it is fish oil in a liquid form. the dosage on the bottle is 1/2 tsp, which will be 800mg of omega 3, 400mg of epa,250mg of dha, and 150mg of other omega 3.

My question is if that is the ideal dosage for my child with add?

Thanks.

Answer:

Hi, that could be a good starting point for a child up to 8 years old but it could take a lot more. Usually, ADD requires mega doses of omega 3 to see improvements.

The problem is there is no exact rule, you will have to start the fish oil and make some other changes in food and play habits, wait for 3 or 4 weeks and adjust the dosage according to results.

The changes in food habits normally mean avoiding processed foods, specially processed carbohydrates that produce blood sugar swings. It also means eating all kinds of proteins, fruits, vegetables and “good” fats.

Especially avoid “bad” fats (any vegetable oil, margarine or trans fats since they form the brain cell connections that affect his mental function)

The changes in play habits involve playing out on the sun several hours everyday to produce the changes in mood necessary for better concentration. Avoid long hours watching TV, on the computer or electronic games. Playing out on the sun is a nutrient for his mind ( vitamin D) necessary for his mental and emotional well being, it should be done everyday and BEFORE any kind of mental effort.

Please, read Attention Deficit Disorder - Maximize Your Child’s Brain Potential With Omega 3

My best wishes

How to Give Fish Oil to 1 Month Old Baby

by Linda
(Michigan )

Fish Oil For 1 month old baby

Fish Oil For 1 month old baby

Hi. My 1 month old baby has a bad case of eczema and I want to give her fish oil to help fight it. She is 100% breastfed and I am taking fish oil daily but her eczema is so bad that I want her to ingest the fish oil as well. How should I administer it to her?

Thank you, Linda

Answer:

Hi Linda: congratulations for taking the time to search information for something very important for you and your baby’s health, not only for her eczema but for her complete brain development.

You don´t say how much fish oil you are taking. My recommendation is to take 900 mg of omega 3 fatty acids a day if you are at your ideal weight and have no hypertension or diabetes. That means close to 3.000 mgs of fish oil per day (check the label for how much EPA plus DHA) It is very important that the quality of fish oil be molecularly distilled fish oil, that has the highest quality standards.

If you are only breastfeeding your baby, that should be the only way to reach her. If your baby does not improve with this amount, you have no risks if you increase it until you see some improvements. It is a matter of trial and error until you find the correct dosage.

Good luck,

Alfredo E.

Omega 3 Dosage For Son With ADD

by Sally

I can't seem too find any information on the proper amount of Omega 3 to give to my 8 year old son. He currently takes 36mg daily of Concerta for ADD. I do not like this medicine and want to try the Omega 3 to help him, but I need some help first finding the correct dosage. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Answer:

Let me congratulate you for thinking of staying out of the easy way with your child’s health. It is always easier to just give him the concerta and forget it!!!!

First, this is no rocket science…..We have a wave of educators and psychologists diagnosing Attention Deficit Disorder to many children, when in reality they are 100% normal, living under circumstances never lived before by past generations. I would recommend that you read and read in order to educate you about ADD and what is affecting your child’s conduct. Please read ADD and Fish Oil

If you want to read what we have written about the theme, please go to our Home Page. There you will find the Google´s “Search” tool, write the words ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER. A new page will open with several results, check them.

Regarding the dosage, there is no such a thing as an exact amount you could mention. It is a matter of trial and error… You see, what you are trying to accomplish here is to get the highest possible amount of omega 3 fatty acids into your child brain cells. That depends on the amount of omega 3 and the omega 6 you give your child. ….Omega 3 and omega fight for the same enzymes in order to get into your child’s brain.

If you feed him a lot of grains, grain oils, pasta, sugar, etc (all carbohydrates are omega 6) less omega 3 will get into his brain cells. You have to diminish the amounts of omega 6 in order to get more omega 3.

Basically, ADD needs mega dosis of omega 3(talking of 6-9.000 mg of fish oil per day) and several months in order to see a change in conduct. …..Something that makes a big difference in his conduct is the amount of sedentary activities the child does: Tv, computer, etc. These activities irritate the child because he finds many emotions WITHOUT ANY PHYSYCAL OUTLET. That is contrary to nature.

He need LOTS of exercise EVERY DAY in order to spend all that energy, BEFORE you expect him to attend a class or something that demands mental activity. Never before he is physically tired, always after strong physical activity. This prepares him for mental activity.

Last, you should find a molecularly distilled fish oil appropriate for a child.

My best to you,

Alfredo E.

Hi Stacy: You can give 1.000 mg of fish oil(close to 300 mg of EPA plus DHA omega 3 acids)up to 9 years. Then you can increase it to 2.000 mg up till 12-13 years. After that you can use 3.000 mg per day, which is the minimum I recommend for an adult.
