Fish Oil Dosage At 16

by Misha

Hi. I am 16 years old and have heard that omega 3 pills are really good for skin and health and would like to take some, but i don't know if it’s okay to take them at this age? (And there are not just omega 3 they are triple omega pills that i got from costco).

Answer:
Congratulations for asking the question, I don´t see many young people at your age asking questions about health, we usually thing that good health is with us forever, whatever we do. Big mistake….

Anyway, if you read Pregnancy and Fish Oil you would learn that omega 3 fats are ESSENTIAL fats we need even before birth for proper development and function of every cell in our organism.

Basically, the foods we eat are depleted of omega 3 and we have to supplement with it in order to avoid a host of degenerative diseases. Please, read Fish Oil Benefits.

Now, the dosage is not an exact science, it depends on your diet, your age, and your health status. If you are overweight you need more than if you are at your ideal weight. If you basically eat processed foods (anything in a box or a package) you need more than if you eat natural unprocessed nutrients like fruits vegetables, nut, good fats, and proteins. Please, read Omega 3 and weight loss.

If you are fully developed at 16, not overweight and have a “reasonable” diet, I would suggest you take 3.000 mg of fish oil per day, equivalent to 900 mg of omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA from the label). Please, read Omega e dosage.

Best wishes,
Alfredo E.
