Fish Oil, Aspirin and Skin Sores

by Guy de byl
(Perth, Australia)

Hi. I have begun suspecting that taking omega 3 oil has been bad for me. I could never understand what was causing me to wake up with a feeling of pressure on the right side of my head. This would develop into a terrible headache which would last for one day. I was taking omega 3 capsules as well as 100mg of aspirin each day.

Several months ago I began taking concentrated omega 3 krill oil. Soon after, I developed painful blisters and later on open sores on my foreskin and a large, weeping sore on my ankle. I stopped taking the oil. The blisters went away, but my ankle wound took ages to heal. I had to take a prescribed ointment because it just wouldn’t heal properly.

I presumed that my body was reacting to the krill component, and so after I had recovered, I began taking a concentrated fish oil omega 3. I got another headache, and several days later I got the same painful blisters on my foreskin.

It is 5 days since I stopped taking the omega 3. However, the painful blisters on my foreskin are still there. Am I wrong in suspecting the omega 3? Are the headaches and wounds related? I now strongly suspect that omega 3 is a blood thinning agent, and that together with aspirin, my blood is so thin that it is seeping through my skin. Would thin blood also be the cause of headaches? Would it take such a long time (more than 5 days) for the blood thinning to disappear?

Answer:

You don’t mention your age, health conditions or amounts of fish oil taken.

Yes, fish oil affects blood viscosity.

I would say that in your case fish oil and aspirin are probably producing the sores. I would suggest you consult with your physician.

If I were in your position, I would try the fish oil without the aspirin. Fish oil has many health benefits for your overall wellbeing.

Best wishes,
Alfredo E.

Nasal lesions and fish oil, krill oil
by: Anonymous

I have experienced nasal lesion after a few months of taking fish oil. After discontinuing the fish oil the lesions went away. A few months ago I started taking Krill oil, and a after a few months the lesions have returned. I am seeing such benefits in terms of reduced artritis symptoms that I don't want to discontinue the krill, but I worry about damage to organs, etc...
