Fish Oil Dosage For Pregnancy

by Jessica Fischer

Hi. I am trying to get pregnant, and taking a prenatal vitamin that came along with a Omega 3 supplement also. I am very concerned that it has mercury and/or PCB's in it. It says "purified", but what does that really mean? And how many milligrams should you take? Can you have too much?

Thank you....concerned mom to be.

Answer:

Jessica. Usually when omega 3 fats come with other supplements in the same pill it means it is omega 3 from vegetable origin, not from animal origin. Here, we do not recommend to take vegetable origin omega 3 because it is not really bio-available and you may end up with something that is not going to do much good.

Our recommendation is to take omega 3 from animal origin, fish, cod liver or krill, 900 mg per day of omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA, from the label), equivalent to 3.000 mg of fish oil per day, if you are at your ideal weight and have no degenerative disorders. Take 6.000 mg of fish oil if you are overweight or have high triglycerides, diabetes, etc. Please, read omega 3 dosage

These oils come with no mercury or any other contaminant when you buy them in the molecularly distilled presentation. We sell them at our omega 3 store.

Make sure you do not have a high omega 6 diet (grains, starches, sugars, processed foods) or you may need more omega 3 to compensate the pro-inflammatory effects of the omega 6s. Please, read Fish oil and Eating

It is also important you have the habit of 30 minutes of exercise every day, it will make you stronger for the demands of your pregnancy.

Please, write back with the results of your new life.

Best wishes,

P.S. Don’t forget your daily omega 3 for your entire family. You can find omega 3 in Cod Liver Oil, Krill Oil and Fish Oil,molecularly distilled, free of impurities sent anywhere in the world at low reasonable price, Omega 3 Store

Doubt About Fish Oil in Prenancy

by Carolina

pregnant and omega 3

pregnant and omega 3

Hi, I am pregnant on my 7th month and just heard about the importance of fish oil for my child but I have a doubt, is it safe to take omega 3 supplements the last four weeks of pregnancy?

Let me know your ideas.

Thanks
Carolina

Answer:

Hi Carolina: The reason we need to supplement with omega 3 is simple, our 21rst century food has 20 to 50 times less omega 3 than what we need to stay healthy, not only for all the processed food (empty nutritional value) we eat but also because natural foods like fruits and vegetables have less nutrition due to less key chemicals in the soil.

These omega 3 fats are important because they are key in the formation of the membrane of every cell we have, if we don´t eat enough omega 3 fats these membranes change their characteristics and operation and we become prone to disease.

It is not only safe, it is important for your child and for yourself. Let me explain first why we should all take omega 3 supplements everyday. Omega 3 is defined as an ESSENTIAL FAT, meaning we need certain amounts in the diet to keep good health.

In the case of a child in formation, omega 3 has a vital role in the formation and development of the child’s brain. That is why you should be supplementing with 900 mg of omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA, from the label) with a molecularly distilled omega 3 (if the bottle does not indicates it , do not buy it, it assures you of the quality of the fish oil), which is close to 3.000 mg per day of fish oil

Pregnant Mother Researching Importance of Omega 3

by Betty
(USA)

I'm trying to determine if it is a good thing to take omega 3 supplements and have been doing lots of research...... I've been told that it's really good for your child’s brain development, but to be careful and avoid ones with too much mercury?

Any thoughts/advice will be greatly appreciated!

Answer:

Some years ago it was discovered that Omega 3 fats are ESSENTIAL for complete development of the brain in pregnancy and infancy. The brain is formed mainly of fats, different fats. About 60% of the brain is fat. DHA, one of the components of Omega 3, is the main fat in the brain.

If the pregnant mother is deficient in Omega 3 the developing child nervous and immune systems will never fully mature, with all the terrible consequences for his/her future life.

The relevance of omega 3 becomes more significant during the last 3 months of pregnancy where the nervous system develops more rapidly. If the body finds Trans Fats or too much omega 6, instead of the much needed omega 3, the brain cell connections formed are different, faulty.

It has been statistically found that approximately 90% of the population in western hemisphere has a deficiency in Omega 3 fats. We eat too much omega 6 as vegetable oils and all kinds of grains and sugars, and too little omega 3. Not only we eat too much omega 6 but the traditional sources of omega 3, like the free range cattle and fish, are now grain fed making them omega 6 rich.

Our bodies are overwhelmed with omega 6 making us prone to many degenerative diseases: heart disease, high triglycerides, arthritis, general inflammation, depression, mood swings, and a host of other disorders.

Pregnancy and Fish Oil, the Benefits:

1-Avoidance of premature babies (fully developed child).

2-Allergy Prevention. Researchers have found that taking omega-3 fatty acids in the form of fish oil supplements during pregnancy might help prevent allergies in babies borne to women with a history of hay fever or asthma.

3-Maximize the intelligence of the baby. Studies suggest the use of omega 3 oils is an absolute must. It is also clear that omega 3 fat supplementation, and restriction of omega 6 fats, will profoundly improve the brain function of the child.

4-Prevent diabetes later in life.

5-Prevent depression before and after childbirth.

You just have to be careful to avoid fish oil without the molecular distillation process (no toxicity from mercury or any other contaminants)

My best to you,

Alfredo E.

Fish Oil, Multivitamin and Pregnancy

by Kate
(Hong Kong)

Fish oil and pregnancy

Fish oil and pregnancy

Hi,I am taking a multivitamin (post-natal formula) and considering taking your recommended dosage of 6g omega 3 for weight loss. Will taking Fish oil and a multivitamin result in taking too much Vitamin A? I just wonder, would that be too much vitamin A?

I am also considering to be pregnant again, can I continue to take the 6 g of omega 3?
Thanks.

Kate

Answer:

Hi Kate. Fish oil has no vitamin A, cod liver oil does. I don’t know how much vitamin A is in your multivitamin but I suggest if you are taking cod liver oil to switch it for fish oil, with no vitamin A.

Make sure to take the best quality omega 3 oil by buying one that says in the label MOLECULARLY DISTILLED (like the one we sell here). That way you are sure the brain in formation of your baby receives no metal contaminants.

Now, if you are overweight you should take 6.000 mg per day of fish oil, equivalent to 1.800 mg per day of omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA of the label). But let me suggest 2 more changes now that you have the responsibility of other life in your hands. Make sure you do 30 minutes of exercise everyday and a diet high in omega 3 fats and low in omega 6 fats.

Please read, Omega 3 and Weight Loss and Pregnancy and Fish Oil
My best wishes.

Better Fish Oil or Flaxseeds For Pregnancy?

by Pamela
(USA)

I hate fish, it’s not an option. So, I take vitamin supplements of Omega 3 as recommended for pregnancy through fish oil tablets w/ DHA and EPA. I also eat walnuts and other foods that naturally have omegas. However many take flaxseed instead.

I know the difference between them in origin, I know that with flaxseed I just add into my food as I prepare it. My question is, is there one form that is recommended more or more effective? If its basically the same thing I think I would rather just take the supplements. What have you heard?

Pamela

Answer:

You don’t say how much fish oil you were taking, but the absolute minimum is 3 grams per day. It will help you and your child in many ways; you can read about the benefits for pregnant mothers… Pregnncy and Fish Oil

Regarding flaxseeds I would tell you, fish oil is the best source there is for omega 3. Basically, in fish oil you find DHA and EPA, the acids that can be use directly by the body. Flaxseeds has ALA, an acid that has to be converted by the body to EPA and DHA and this process is VERY inefficient (around 10%, if you are lucky).

My best to you,

Alfredo E.
