Question:

Hello all. I am 5'6 255lbs with a 52 waist (navel to navel). I am developing the discipline to go to the gym on a regular basis. That is my immediate goal to be honest with you.

"our habits will make or destroy us"

My cardio is at twenty minutes but its not the HIIT method as of yet. Haven't started with the weights yet. The iron manual seems to be a logical choice should I want a methodical approach to weight training. I would like your opinion on this program. And yes I do have the Abs diet book.

Also, and this is important. I need to quit smoking. Will my metabolism slow down even further once I quit? That and being in my 40's is double jeopardy. Your opinions please.

Answer:

Congratulations Nomobtis:

I am 58 years old and the 2 hardest thing to fight in my life have been smoking and weight. I say congratulations because you have made your first move: to do something for your health.

As Einstein said: NOTHING HAPPENS UNTIL SOMETHING MOVES.

I would say, it is easier to add something to your life than to subtract something. It is easier to add something as important as exercise for the rest of your life or sports than to take away smoking. Do it one at a time.

Congratulations again, try to assume exercise as something very important, not only for losing weight, but as an activity for the rest of your life. As the perfect moment of the day where you can be alone with yourself, away from the rest of the world.
