Hi, my daughter is 2 years old and is having infant Asthma. How much of cod liver oil should I give her.
Thanks.
Answer:
Hi Nirmala, thank you for visiting our Portal.
My recommendation for children up to 8 years old is to take 300 mg per day of total omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA, from the label). Which is equivalent to 1.000 mg of fish oil per day, or one fish oil capsule of the most commercial fish oil you find.
Your child won´t be able to swallow one of these fish oils capsules, so the best answer to that is to buy liquid fish oil of good quality (molecularly distilled fish oil). Liquid fish oil normally has around 1.000 mg of omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA) per teaspoon, but it can vary with the manufacturer. So you will be safe to offer her one third of a teaspoon per day, usually as part of her milk.
By the way, avoid all milk formulas with soy incorporate. Many have the idea that soy is healthy for us and for children but it is exactly the opposite. It is a genetically modified food that have been altered in many ways and can have a big negative impact in the health of children.
