Fish OIl For Dog With Cancer

Fish oil for dog with cancer
Hi. My dog Ky was just diagnosed with cancer and had one (possibly two) mast cell tumors removed a few weeks ago. She's a nine years old American Bulldog whose thriving and good-looking.
The only reason we knew she needed to go to the vet is the bumps. She recovered well and I just want to give her all the nutrients to live out the rest of her days comfortably and happily. How do I go about giving her Omega 3? She's 80lbs.
THnkas.
Answer
Tracey, sorry to hear your dog Ky had some tumors removed. It is important to remember that a diet high in starches (sugars) from dried grains is against dog’s nature. Dogs evolved for millions of years with a carnivorous diet high in omega 3, not with a high carbohydrate diet. This diet creates the ideal environment, in dogs and humans, for degenerative diseases to set in, one of them is cancer.
It may be a good step for her health to implement a raw meat diet, with bones and free range meat instead of dried grains. You can give Ky one omega 3 capsule a day, that is 1.000 mg of fish oil, equivalent to 300 mg of omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA).
Please, read Pet Food

Best wishes,

Help For Labrador
by Tom Masden
(St. Helen Mi.)
old labrador and fish oil
Hi, I am taking care of my daughters labrador. She is about 12 or 13 years old and has a lot of hip problems. I have to help her up all the time. Is it to late to give her Omega 3????
Thanks.
Answer. Hi, Tom. I believe it is never too late to help an animal in pain. The joint problem is basically chronic inflammation produced and maintained by the ingestion of a high omega 6 diet from grains. Pet food is mostly dry grains.
You could reduce or eliminated the omega 6 fats with a carnivorous diet of raw meat and bones and supplement it with 6.000 mg per day of fish oil (A high dosage, close to 1.800 mg of EPA plus DHA, omega 3 fats. It is easier to take one spoonful of liquid fish oil with any meal that many fish oil capsules).
If you see a positive reaction, after a few weeks, you could reduce the amount of fish oil.
Please, read The Anti-Inflammation Diet

Great Pyrenees And Fish Oil Dosage
by Penny
(GA)
Omega 3 for great pyrenees
I have a male 20 week old Great Pyrenees puppy that weighs 20 pounds. I took him yesterday morning to the vet for a hot spot. They gave me some GenOne spray topical to spray on infected area 3 times a day. He is still bothered by it.
I had some Fish Oil Cholesterol Free 1000 MG softgels, the EPA is 180 mg and DHA is 120 mg. This product contains fish (herring, anchovy, mackerel, sardine and salmon). Can I give this to my dog Max and how much and how often?
Thank you so much.
Max's Mom
Answer:
Yes, you should give your puppy fish oil everyday as a preventive health step. The dosage depends on the size and the food you are supplying your dog. Great Pyrenees are large dogs that could weigh more than 100 pounds but as a puppy, I would say one fish oil capsule a day is fine, 2 capsules when he gets bigger.
Do not forget to exercise your dog daily, he needs it, it will make him more relaxed, obedient and healthier.

Fish Oil For Dog With Heart Failure
by Karen
(USA)
Dog with heart failure
Hi. I was wondering what kind of omega3 fish oil would be good for my dog that has congested heart failure. He weighs 13 pounds so how much to give him..
Thanks.
Answer:
Hi Karen. In the case of congestive heart failure, I would recommend to be very, very cautious with fish oil. Humans with heart failure are recommended to avoid fish oil because they have found that the heart is, in some cases so weak, that it could begin to show electrical disturbances that could eventually produce a fatal accident.
I don´t know about dogs but it is not recommended for humans. I would suggest instead switching from dry food to a more natural carnivorous diet. It may not cure the dog but it sure will make it feel better.

Fish Oil For Flatcoated Retriever With Heart Condition
by Joyce
(Tyne and Wear, UK)
Fish Oil for flatcoated retriever
Hi. We have a three year old Flatcoated Retriever with a heart condition - not minor, vet hesitated and said moderate as a puppy of 9 weeks. So far he is not on medication, recently went to the vets for his boosters and we were told his murmur was loud.
Only a few months prior to this, they (2) vets said they could hardly hear it, also said it will not be long before he has to go onto medication. The vet told us of some new Omega 3 fish oil for dogs this could help our dog with his heart condition to delay him having to have medication for his heart-but looking into it the vet said they were too dear and we should wait until he has to go on medication.
Since heard other dog owners giving their dogs oils that they take, we take omega 3 fish oil 1,000mg strength for years. Robbie's weight is about 60lbs and fed on dry food Pro-Plan Adult, could we give him 1 capsule of Omega 3 Fish oil a day 1,000mg
Thanks.
Answer
Hi Joyce. Dogs, as well as humans, need a balance in their omega 6 to omega 3 fats ratio to prevent a number of degenerative diseases. The amounts of bio available omega 3 provided by dry foods is normally very low compared to their omega 6 contend. Dry food manufactures count omega 3 in the ALA (not bio available) form simply as omega 3 but it really has to be as the EPA and DHA form to be bio available, like in your fish oil container.
That is the reason to supplement with omega 3 for humans as for dogs. Now, if your dog has a heart condition, all his body cells still need omega 3 for the same reasons and it may help to prevent some other disorders that may appear in the future, specially if you keep feeding him dry food, which I don’t recommend at all.
Regarding the dosage, 1.000 mg per day of fish oil is the proper dose for the dog but not for humans. You see, we need at least 3.000 mg per day of fish oil (close to 900 mg of omega 3 fats, EPA plus DHA), if we are at optimal weight and with no degenerative disorders like high blood pressure, high triglycerides or diabetes. We need more if we are overweight.

Alfredo E.

Fish OIl And A Long Healthy Life For Obe
Obe......R.I.P
Hi All. My staffy and best friend Obe was fed raw meat with a small amount of Eukanaba biscuits and a teaspoon of Omega 3 oil every day and at least once a week had some veges thrown in.
He died the week before Xmas at the ripe old age of 16yrs. He was never sick and didn’t die from cancer or any other ailments that our pets get in old age. My other 2 staffies are on the same diet, I know they will be around for just as long. I know it is because of the fish oil that Obe lived a long healthy life.
Answer:
Thanks you for your testimony, it may help some other pet owners to change the diet they provide their friends.
Best wishes,

Fish Oil For Yorkie With Diabetes
by jeanne
(corpus christi, tx)
Fish oil for Yorkie with diabetes
HI, i have a Yorkie that is eight and he has had bladder surgery, for removal of stones.he has diabetes and has very high triglycerides....He is such a sweet one, it just breaks my heart when he has to go to the vet.....I would bet we have paid well over fifteen thousand dollars on him...he used to have pancreatic attacks that would just destroy him for a few days until the ivs would help and we would always bring him home at night with the iv in his arm..since he has been on humulin 11 units...he has done much better....
My question is, do you think it would be alright to give the fish oil to him?....i have 3 yorkies and they go from one bowl to another bowl eating....funny thing to watch...his litter brother is a kidney stone maker and has had several surgeries on that....our little girl from a different litter seems remarkably healthy....thank goodness...so a long way around the question but could they all have the fish oil even the little girl?...she is much younger......
thank you for listening to my rambling.....
Answer:
Hi Jeanne. Your dogs are showing the consequences of a high carbohydrate diet, diabetes and high triglycerides. Carnivorous animals have the digestion for proteins not for carbohydrates that come in dry foods.
You can give them 1.000 mg per day fish oil that will assist them in a better overall health but the real problem is their starchy diet. Unless you change that, all of them are going to suffer from similar degenerative diseases.

Omega 3-6-9 Supplement for Dog Dry Skin?
by Susan
omega 3 for my dog skin
My dog has dry skin, scratches herself until she bleeds. I was asking myself if I can give her the omega 3-6-9 capsules that I take daily? I have checked some websites and they sell you 3-6-9 capsules for dogs, is there a difference?
I should also mention that I feed my dog lean ground beef, one meal a day and her second meal is dry dog food.
I have the ingredients information: Oils: Flax Oil 400 mg; Borage Oil 400 mg; Fish Oil 400 mg Vitamins: Natural Vitamin E 10 IU Active Compounds: Omega-3: Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA) 53% 212 mg, Eicosapentaenoic (EPA) 18% 72 mg, Docosahexaenoic (DHA) 12% 48 mg; Omega-6 : Linoleic Acid (LA) 207 mg, Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) 18% 76 mg; Omega-9: Oleic Acid 173 mg
Thanks in advance for your opinion
Susan
Answer:
Hello Susan. The problem with dry dog food is that it is made from several grains. Dogs have a digestive track for meat not for grains, that is why dry food creates all kinds of health problems. On top of that, dry food is full of omega 6 oils that are pro inflammatory and your are not helping neither your health nor your dog’s by taking more omega 6 with that supplement you are buying. The same with omega 9, we already have too much omega 9 and don’t need more omega 9.
Now, the situation with omega 3 is the opposite, we need 20 times more, and your dog needs it too, omega 3 that what we normally can get from our food. That is why we should take a supplement ( I recommend 3.000 mg of fish oil a day). Your dog needs 1.000 of fish oil a day but if he is a big dog, you better give him 2.000 mg of fish oil. You can use any fish oil, it does not has to be fish oil for dogs.
It is a good thing you are feeding him ground beef. It should be raw and it does not have to be lean meat, your dog also needs the fats.

Fish Oil for Dog - How much? How often?
by Lia
(Ontario)
I have a 38 lb dog, 1/2 standard poodle and 1/2 cocker spaniel. We take Omega 3 Fish Oil/1000mg so I hope I can give him the same.
Thanks.
Answer:
Yes, you can give him the same fish oil as you take. I have three dogs and they all get the same as I do. I myself take 2 1200mg soft gel tablets per day. My dogs all get 1 per day. I just throw it into their food and they all eat it with the Glycoflex 600 that they get to prevent joint problems. They are 10 years old, almost 8, and 5 and are all in great health with wonderful skin and soft shiny coats.
Of course I make sure they get high quality dog food also. I am currently feeding VeRus, which is a basic high quality food with no by-products, no soy, corn, what, gluten or artificial coloring or flavoring.

Fish oil and Mange
by TJ
(USA)
Hi, fish oil helps mange in dogs, Sarcoptic and red mange. Dogs with bald, fish oil will help in no time and within 5 days my dog grew lots of new hair and no more mange.
I buy the lipiderm from the pet store that you can find like pets mart, petco, pet supplies plus... etc. I give my 60 lbs dog 1 1/2 tsp daily.
Answer:
Hi TJ. The need for fish oil for dogs is well recognized among veterinarians. It can do wonders to their hair health but it serves many purposes, like in humans.
Thanks for taking the time to send this testimony and we hope it will serve other pet owners.

Fish Oil Dosage For My Two Dachshund Dogs
Hi. I have been giving my 2 dogs 1 fish oil capsule soft gel a day. We pierce it and squeeze it on their food. My female doxie goes crazy, she loves it sooooo much. It's a 1200 mg gel cap, is that too much for her (18lbs)?
It would be hard to give less since it's a gel cap and she loves it so much. My male doxie has had major skin issues and is doing very well now, he was under control when we started him on the fish oil and he has been without any issues for a little while now and their coats are beautiful.
My female cries if we don’t give her the oil in her food, since we feed them in the am and pm. My other male loves it too but he eats no matter what. My female refused to eat this morning since there was no oil on her food, we usually give it in the evening meal.
But I was worried are there any bad effects giving them the 1200mg gel cap every day at their weight?
Thanks.
Answer:
I believe they know what is good for them. I don’t think one capsule is too much for dogs like yours. It also depends on the type of food you feed them. If you are buying dry dog food, which is mainly dry grains (omega6), they may even need more omega 3 to compensate all those omega 6. But if you are feeding them raw grass fed meat, with plenty of omega 3, they may not need any omega 3.

Fish Oil for Puppy
by Rosa
(Miami)
Fish Oil Puppy
Can you give a puppy cod liver oil / fish oil capsule to keep them healthy? My friend said it is important to supplement their food with omega 3, is that good for their health?
At what age can I start supplying fish oil?
Rosa
Answer:
Rosa: you can start giving a puppy fish oil since the days he stops breastfeeding. In fact you should start doing it if you are not feeding him a natural diet, which is a raw meat diet.
Omega 3 will help raise a happy puppy, free of degenerative diseases like arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, etc., that you commonly see these days in dogs fed with dry food. Dry foods are basically made from grains, a food the digestive system of the dog is not designed to handle.
I would rather use fish oil instead of cod liver oil because of the Vitamin A and D you will be adding with this oil.
