I know I have read a lot on fish oil and I have never seen anything reported on negative mood swings from fish oil, but since I have started taking fish oil my mood got worse and worse. One word would set me off in such a mean horrible mood for the whole day, also I started breaking out all over my face and some on my chest.

I'm not sure if the oil can do this I'm just wondering if there is an answer out there. I have stopped taking it now for about three days and my mood is fine and good, also my face and chest are clearing up. I want to take fish oil, the benefits are endless but I don't want t be in a nasty mood all the time. Have you ever heard of anything like this??

Well, I have never heard of anything like that but If you can relate your mood changes to the fish oil you are presently taking, please stop taking it.

Perhaps, next time you could try with a better quality fish oil, molecularly distilled fish oil, like the one with sell here.

I thought I was crazy!!!!

Sure enough, with all these promises in the media, billboards, magazines, etc, I thought I was going mad every time I tried Omega 3 in capsules, combined with multiple vitamins or by themselves, I experience an insidious anguish, sadness and feelings of depression that will not go away unless I stop the product altogether.

The quality does not matter, pure, distilled, clean, from the bottom of the Ocean, it does not matter. I do have a history of depression in my family with some regular mood swings, however, with the Omega 3, 6 or 9, the symptoms are constant and very pronounced. Stay away from that stuff.

Hi Gabe. If you read some of the more than 800 pages we have in this site, you will find that we are AGAINST the supplementation with omega 3 6 9.

We explain in many pages that when you buy a product with omega 6 you are actually doing a disservice to your health. We should supplement ONLY with omega 3, not omega 6 9.

The reason is very simple. The western diets are very high in grains and gran oils, all very high in omega 6. For that reason the omega 6 to omega 3 ratio, that ideally should be 1 to 1, becomes 20 to 1 or even 50 to 1. We have too much omega 6 and very low omega 3. When you supplement, you should add the anti-inflammatory omega 3 not more omega 6, which is pro inflammatory. The same with omega 9, we already have enough in our body.

Cod liver oil increased mood swings

I have tried on two separate occasions; when I was in my thirties and twenty years later to consume cod liver oil to boost my immune system as I am prone to sinus infections.

Both times I experienced terrible mood swings. I felt out of control. I was mostly very sad and melancholic. When I stopped, I went back to my normal self.

I completely agree, Fish Oil does the same thing for me. It makes me absolutely crazy! My mood is so bad, and I am terribly miserable. I just go off and feel like I have no control over myself.

If I stop taking it - I'm fine. So, of course I DO NOT take it... but would like to understand why it does that to me. Also, eating a lot of fish such as Tilapia will do the same thing. I am very careful of my fish intake.

Tilapia and fish do not have omega 3 in common. Tilapia is a farmed fish that it has no omega 3 fats, it is mostly fed on grains, which are omega 6 fats.

I would say, you should try some other omega 3 source that could benefit your health. Maybe some other fish oil brand, cod liver oil or krill oil. We NEED, omega 3 fats for its innumerable benefits.
