Anti-inflammatory Effects Of Fish Oil

Anti inglamatory benefits of fish oil and a diet low in omega 6 fats
Hi. I am a 53 year old male who had a number of chronic ailments. I started taking fish oil for its purported heart benefits. I gradually increased daily oil consumption to 10,000 milligrams - 10 capsules -- as part of a weight loss diet.
After 3 or 4 months, I noticed several major improvements in chronic soft tissue problems which I attribute to the anti-inflammatory effect of the fish oil (although I also started taking Acai and Resveratrol at about the same time I increased the fish oil).
An achilles tendon injury which caused the tendon to be permanently inflamed and become really stiff and painful for several days after a workout, and which had bothered me CONTINUOUSLY for about 15 years, stopped hurting. I jog 4 miles 3 times a week now with no tendon problem. The inflamed tendon is about 5% of its previous size.
A soft tissue lower back injury I had for 3 years after a bad car accident, stopped hurting me. My back improved to the extent that I was water skiing last summer and can jog and play tennis again for the first time since the car accident.
After 2 years of waking up EVERY night exactly at 4 am (and sometimes twice a night) due to an enlarged prostate, I now sleep through the night. I don't even go to the bathroom before I go to sleep now and I still don't get up in the middle of the night. I recently drove 4 hours to visit my son at college and didn't have to stop once. I can only conclude that my enlarged prostate must have shrunk without taking any medication for this.
I don't get hemorrhoids any more and some old ones virtually disappeared.
After using decongestant nasal spray on a daily basis for many years because my sinuses were always congested - I stopped using it and am not having any problem breathing.
The only things in common about all of these health improvements are that (1) they started several months after I started taking 10,000 mg of fish oil (plus Acai and Resveratrol), and (2) they were soft tissue injuries which shrunk and improved dramatically after I started taking the mega-dose of fish oil.
There a few other side effects. I lost 25 pounds over 4 months and seem to be losing more without trying too hard. My blood pressure went from 140s/100 to 130s/80s. My cholesterol also went down.
Needless to say, I am now permanently taking 10,000 mg of fish oil each day.
Answer:
Hi Tom. As I was reading your question and could not find any complains about the use of fish oil, I was wondering when was it coming. It never came, no complains just nice benefits from your omega 3 mega doses. Well, I am glad you are having excellent results with your fish oil not only for your weight loss program but for general inflammation, better exercise response, better blood pressure control, better cholesterol profile and even your prostate and hemorrhoids. Very nice…
Let me comment with a few words about the 10.000 mg of fish oil per day. That is a fairly high dosage, not normally required. It depends on several factors. You don´t say what is your weight but it is obvious that if you are heavy you need more fish oil.
It normally takes a few months to see the all the benefits from the fish oil but also varies with the amounts of omega 6 ( pro - inflammatory oils) you ingest in your normal diet. Those are the grains, grain oils, starches and sugars you take in your diet. They are all pro – inflammatory, if you limit their quantities, you get better and faster benefits from fish oil. So, it is a rather personal thing to say at what point in time you are going to feel the difference.
Tom, thanks for taking the time to let other visitors know your positive experience with omega 3 fish oil.
