Agitation in Collie Due to Fish Oil?

by Vicki
(Arizona)

Hi. Just a few days after beginning Fish Oil, my 2 1/2 year old collie mix has gotten very hyper. She is almost unable to stop moving and even jumps around like a puppy. Her behavior is out of control. The Fish Oil is the only thing different.

Could the Fish Oil be the cause of this?

Thanks.

Answer:

Vicky, you don´t mention the type of fish oil you are giving your dog, neither the dosage. It is very rare that a reaction of agitation could be in response to fish oil but you never know.

You should eliminate the possibility by stopping for a few days and then restart feeding the dog the same fish oil. If you see a similar reaction, it is the fish oil.

Make sure you are providing enough daily exercise and a diet low in starches (dry food for dogs is mainly starches or grains presented in a fancy way. Dogs do not have the digestion for starches but for meat).

Best wishes,

Alfredo E.
