ADHD, Doctors, Healthy Habits And Omega 3

Hi. Both of my children are ADHD with comorbidities of anxiety and depression. They are 13 and 10. I dislike the controlled substances very much and not to mention the cost. I took them both off it last year for about two months and they struggled terribly in school and I gave them this supplement (ATTEND by VAXA)

The only help was improved sleep. That is it.

I am looking for answers high and low from DHA FISH OIL to lack of Magnesium in their diet's. I am so OVER all of this. I need someone to shed some light upon my situation. I have prayed time and time again. I have tried handing this over to GOD.

We do not live in a perfect world, and I know this of my children. I want them to be happy and enjoy life. We have seen many doctors in the past 6 years for both. None of them seem to want to go the natural/holistic approach for reasons understood. But, I do not like all of these other side effects that these meds are turning my kids into.

We have gone the gluten free and the no dye route too with foods as well as no sugar....NOTHING!!!! Already at the ages of ten and thirteen there are suicidal thoughts. We have been in therapy in home and outpatient. Help?

Answer:

Hi Jerilyn, I am sorry to know that you and your children have not been able to overcome such a difficult situation. I may have not the perfect answer for your case but I will tell what I would do if I were you.

First, you mention that you have visited many doctors with no major improvement and with many side effects. They usually offer help with some of the symptoms but almost never with the real cause of a situation. A better answer may be found with your careful attention to the way your children react to different changes and going back to basics: habits. Eating and play habits.

I would eliminate all processed foods for all members in the family. Go back to basic unprocessed foods, eliminating all sugars, starches, sodas, bakery and commercial oils. Everything that comes from a factory or is in a box. Eat natural foods, with no chemicals, no additives or colorants, like fruits, vegetables, eggs, nuts and all meats.



In the exercise department, I would make sure they play for long periods of time outside in the sun (the sun is VERY important, it provides vitamin D, essential for the operation of the nervous system) in such a way that they spend ALL excess energy BEFORE they need to pay attention or learn anything. You see, the mind is not ready to concentrate in anything when there is excess nervous energy caused by long periods of INACTIVITY.

Talking about inactivity, it should be their major enemy. Pay attention and limit television or computer time. These activities are a major cause of nervous energy accumulation. Take them for long walks, dance, swimming classes, etc.

There has been found in several studies that ADHD is related to a low level of omega 3 fats in the brain of these persons. Make sure you buy a molecularly distilled fish oil, easier to give them in liquid form, not in capsules, to provide at least 900 mg per day of omega 3 fats (EPA plus DHA from the label). You may have to go higher, as needed.

Please, make sure you write a list of things that improve and make their problem worse. This continues notations are a closer step to their freedom from these behavioral problems. No drug is going to replace your watchful eye.
