10,000 mg Per Day Of Salmon Oil

10 grams fish oil dosage
Okay, I'm a 58 year old mixed race male. Diagnosed with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, hypothyroid and Type II diabetes. About 8 years ago my general practioner prescribed 6,000 mgs of pure salmon oil per day. After about a year, he mentioned that I should up it to 10,000 per day.
So for 7 years now I've been religiously taking the higher dosage. Apparently it is supposed to do all kinds of good things for you especially that of the heart. I am not sure if it has worked. My triglycerides and such are very good, my medication is still the same for all my other pill and I feel great.
I would suppose a test of some sort would tell me for sure but from all indicators, the super dose of omega 3 salmon oil works just fine for me. Just saying.
Answer:
Lionel. I am glad you found a doctor that understood the importance of fish oil supplementation for your disorders. Not many do….Regarding the 10.000 mg dosage, it is important to work with your personal results at lower doses and increase them if you need to. The dosage needed in each case varies according to your physiology, your age and your diet. If you have a diet high in omega 6 fats, processed foods, starches, grains, cereal, etc., you are going to need more omega 3 to compensate those pro-inflammatory foods.
In your case, I would say it is extremely important to get your hypothyroidism under control, that is your TSH under 2.00 (not 4.00, as some doctors believe) in order to get your other disorders to react better to fish oil.
You did not mentioned eating and exercise habits but in your case, it is extremely important to have a high omega 3 diet and to exercise everyday for at least 30 minutes at a medium high intensity.
Best wishes,
Alfredo E.
